The practice of mindfulness and meditation.
There is a prayer in Buddhism that uses the term in body, speech and mind. Our precious human life reality is given to us through our body, speech and mind.
Our body senses of taste, touch, smell, hearing and sight which our brain processes to give us the information of our physical awareness. Through our speech we create our reality. Our words within our own minds and spoken out load give us the reality of the world we live in. We are creating our world with every word we think and say!!! Our mind gives us the information that is used to process the body and speech input. Also creating a reality within the mind. The mind creates the reality from the input and the input creates the reality within the mind. An always present loop.
We all need time to literally unwind. We live in a world of information and sensory over load. Everything we could ever want to know is at our fingertips. We are blessed to be living in very exciting times of growth, change and information. It also means that we have to create opportunities to let go of what is no longer needed in our minds. To clear out the old, unnecessary, outdated mind clutter that todays world can over load us with. Best way to clear and open your mind is with meditation and prayer. Quiet times of silence with no or little input.
There are many forms of meditation. Different people will be drawn to some types more than others. I encourage you to try many different forms of meditation and to switch it up from time to time.
Some of the practices of meditation are:
Mindfullness
Silent
Dance
QiGong
TaiChi
Zen
Grounding
Mantra
Japa
Tantra
Vibrational
Candle focus
Drumming
Chant
Kirtan
The primary focus of meditation is to quiet and clear the mind.
The comment I have heard most about meditation is "I have tried it and I am not able to quiet my mind. I just cannot do it. I am thinking through the whole process."
It is called the practice of meditation. It is a practice to continue over time. Highly experienced meditators have thoughts while meditating. It is part of our human existence to think. It is our free will and mindfulness that gives us the ability to choose our thoughts toward a life of compassion and love. Meditation gives you many positive attributes.
Here are a few of the benefits of meditation.
The time and awareness to witness your thoughts. To step back from your thoughts as YOU and hear your mind in action. When you do this, you then have the ability to have a say so in the matter of WHAT you think. Making reference to the previous paragraph, that your mind is always creating your reality along with your physical senses and speech. Realizing that your mind is NOT you. Your mind is a construct of your human experience. You are greater that your mind alone. Your mind is a tool. Use it for good.
The blessing of a moment or two of silence within your mind. Allowing the thoughts to float by like clouds, unattached. When you don't attach to a thought it simply goes by, without notice. You have the ability to release yourself of the unwanted thoughts that do not serve you. Release of the nonessential!!! Our monkey minds like to keep us busy in loops of thought that are non productive and steal your vitality. Meditation lowers your blood pressure, anxiety and stress levels. Meditation gives you power with your thoughts and life. Creating a mind like a Buddha!!!
